What to Check When Sourcing Replacement Automation Parts
A practical way to reduce uncertainty in an industrial replacement enquiry.
Capture the installed part
Provide a clear nameplate photograph and the complete manufacturer code. Include revision or firmware information when it affects integration. Record the machine function and any known configuration details.
Define what must remain compatible
List mechanical mounting, supply, I/O, communication and software requirements. A newer product in the same family may still require engineering changes. Make exact-match requirements explicit in the request.
Evaluate alternatives transparently
Ask the supplier to identify any difference from the requested model. Review the manufacturer documentation with the machine owner or responsible engineer. Do not approve a substitute solely because its headline rating is similar.
Agree the order evidence
Confirm the offered code, condition, accessories, documentation and delivery terms in writing. Clarify any return or warranty terms before purchase. Keep the quotation and approval records with the machine maintenance documentation.
