Variable Frequency Drive Selection: What to Include in an RFQ

Prepare motor, supply and load information for a drive sourcing enquiry.

Start with the motor nameplate

Provide a readable nameplate image together with the installed drive code when available. Record rated voltage, current and power as shown. A power figure on its own may omit information needed to select a suitable drive.

Describe the supply and load

State the incoming voltage and phase configuration, the driven equipment and its operating cycle. Explain any frequent starts, braking requirements or unusual operating conditions. A qualified designer should confirm the drive selection and required accessories.

Check the installation requirements

Include available cabinet space, ambient conditions and the required control interface. Review manufacturer guidance for cooling, protection and installation. Identify whether filters, braking components or other accessories need to be quoted separately.

Confirm the exact offer

Check the full drive suffix, included options and requested documentation. Before approving a replacement, compare the installed configuration and manufacturer compatibility information. Record any commissioning or parameter migration work needed for the machine.
